LET'S BRIGHTEN UP THIS DARK KITCHEN

The homeowners came in looking to redo their kitchen with a specific idea in mind. The existing kitchen was dark with an almost medieval look to it. They wanted to open up the space by removing a wall between the kitchen and dining room, removethe sink/peninsula separating the kitchen and breakfast nook to open up the space. See the photos below.

In order to achieve the open space which the homeowners wanted, we designed the following:

1 We moved the sink into the large island with seating for 4 utilizing back-to-back cabinetry, therefore eliminating the peninsula.

2 We created a buildout wall of tall pieces including a utility cabinet as well as the tall utility/microwave cabinet surrounding the refrigerator on the cutback wall.

3 The breakfast nook included a banquette matching the kitchen cabinetry providing additional storage in the seating area. An adjacent add-on wall provided an area for storage and countertop space to compliment the banquette.

4 With small children, they wanted something the family could live in comfortably as the children grew. Adding a matching wall of cabinetry in the previous dining room allowed for the children’s toy storage as well as the coffee station for Mom and Dad.

5 Highlights were the decorative tile back splash that encompasses the entire stove and decorative hood wall.

6 They complimented the other back splash areas in a beautiful blue glass subway tile. Toe kick lighting in the island provides a beautiful night light.

7 Beautiful Cambria Hawksmore Quartz Countertop added the final finishing touch!

8 And, finally, the hallway pantry/ catch all closet was transformed to match the kitchen by utilizing another tall cabinet and recessing it into the space, creating a seamless continuity in all spaces.
