LET’S BRIGHTEN UP THIS DARK KITCHEN

BEFORE PHOTOS

The homeowners came in looking to redo their kitchen with a specific idea in mind. The existing kitchen was dark with an almost medieval look to it. They wanted to open up the space by removing a wall between the kitchen and dining room, removethe sink/peninsula separating the kitchen and breakfast nook to open up the space. See the photos below.

In order to achieve the open space which the homeowners wanted, we designed the following:

1 We moved the sink into the large island with seating for 4 utilizing back-to-back cabinetry, therefore eliminating the peninsula.

2 We created a buildout wall of tall pieces including a utility cabinet as well as the tall utility/microwave cabinet surrounding the refrigerator on the cutback wall.

3 The breakfast nook included a banquette matching the kitchen cabinetry providing additional storage in the seating area. An adjacent add-on wall provided an area for storage and countertop space to compliment the banquette.

4 With small children, they wanted something the family could live in comfortably as the children grew. Adding a matching wall of cabinetry in the previous dining room allowed for the children’s toy storage as well as the coffee station for Mom and Dad.

5 Highlights were the decorative tile back splash that encompasses the entire stove and decorative hood wall.

6 They complimented the other back splash areas in a beautiful blue glass subway tile. Toe kick lighting in the island provides a beautiful night light.

7 Beautiful Cambria Hawksmore Quartz Countertop added the final finishing touch!

8 And, finally, the hallway pantry/ catch all closet was transformed to match the kitchen by utilizing another tall cabinet and recessing it into the space, creating a seamless continuity in all spaces.

From Stained Cabinets to Modern Efficiency

Designed by Capitol Kitchens and Baths Designer Michaela, with the work done by Mark Sheffer of Most Building Services.

In the heart of Glenville, a recent kitchen refresh project perfectly demonstrates how thoughtful design enhances both functionality and style. Our organized clients had a clear vision: they sought new stained cabinets that would seamlessly match the interior doors of adjacent rooms. Once we found the ideal match, it became clearer that their goals went beyond aesthetics—they wanted to maximize storage and efficiency in their kitchen.

Being very organized, they wanted storage in every cabinet and to be easy to get to the hidden back of the cabinet. No pulling everything out of the base cabinets on to floor to get to the item in the back. So we installed easy roll-outs and drawers, eliminating the need to dig through base cabinets. A diagonal lazy Susan in the stove corner maximized space for food prep and pot storage.

The clients selected customizable Decora door styles with various edge profile options, opting for a sleek combination of light upper cabinets and dark lower cabinets. They chose hardware that complemented the design and matched the beveled toe board with the door profiles, creating a cohesive and stylish look.

This refresh turned their kitchen into a stylish and efficient space, balancing modern elegance with practical solutions.

^{Signature Series}

Abundant swirls and charcoal-gray veins animate this wheat-toned design. Beige and white accents provide a subtle softness. A crystallized feel adds pleasing depth and dimension.

The base cabinets are Decora, made of Maple in the Fennec finish with Harmony doors. A custom beveled edge was added to these. The base cabinet handles are Jeffrey Alexander Sonoma square pull in a brushed oil-rubbed bronze finish.

Toe kick wrap around to match the cabinet door style.

The wall cabinets are by Decora, made of Maple in the Mindful Gray finish with Harmony doors. A custom beveled edge was added to these. The wall cabinet knobs are Jeffrey Alexander Sonoma in satin nickel.

Spectacular Kitchen Transformation

A brand new home for the homeowners. Beautiful location, and a tremendous space to create the dream kitchen. The contractor for this project was Scott Baker, Baker Contracting.

In Glenville, a stunning new home set the stage for a kitchen makeover. Inspired by a Colorado house plan, the homeowners sought to personalize it with their unique style. They selected a tile backsplash and accessories that harmonized with their vision, while custom stainless steel doors flanking the stove created a striking focal point for their entertaining needs.

The design featured a large island for both prep and seating, with roll-out and pull-out accessories for easy access. Custom 9′ ceilings allowed us to extend the wall cabinets to the top, achieving a sleek, gap-free look with flat crown molding. The flat doors with a beveled edge added a modern touch, perfectly blending functionality and style.

A stunning bathroom and shower makeover that is sleek, bright, and modern. Billie’s design expertise, combined with the homeowners’ ideas, transformed this space into a fresh and stylish retreat.

Bathroom Makeover Idea: Grout-Free Shower Surround

The clients were searching for an alternative to traditional tile for their shower surround. They wanted a solution without grout. When client Suzanne discovered the option of using Cambria for shower walls, she was thrilled—it was exactly what she had envisioned for her bathroom remodel. After visiting the Cambria showroom in Schenectady, they selected the elegant Smithfield design.

To complete the makeover, we complemented the shower with a matching Cambria vanity top and a brand-new light gray vanity. This seamless and cohesive look added the perfect touch to this bathroom and shower makeover, delivering both beauty and practicality.

Our designer, Billie, worked with the homeowners on this kitchen makeover to bring their dream kitchen to life. The clients came prepared with a clear vision of what they wanted, and with Billie’s expertise, this project became a stunning transformation. From updated cabinets and countertops to new fixtures, every detail was carefully considered.

Kitchen Makeover Idea: Expanding and Opening the Space

This complete remodel focused on creating an open, spacious layout. The homeowners wanted to remove the wall dividing the kitchen from the living room, making the space flow seamlessly into the rest of the house. To further enhance functionality, they opted to close off the “pass-through” cutout into the family room, allowing for the addition of extra cabinetry—maximizing storage without sacrificing style.

Functional Storage and Island Addition

Our client Carol, an avid entertainer, wanted a second wall oven, and functional storage was a key requirement. A 12″ deep pantry cabinet next to the refrigerator was essential, preventing items from getting lost while perfectly fitting into the new floorplan. With the wall removed, the kitchen island they had always envisioned became a reality—an ideal centerpiece for meal prep and gatherings.

This kitchen makeover is a prime example of how thoughtful design and expert planning can completely transform a space.

Capitol Kitchens and Baths Designer Billie worked closely with Taylor’d Construction on a complete renovation of this luxury master bathroom. The project involved removing the outdated garden tub and replacing it with a stylish freestanding tub, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.

Upgraded Master Bathroom Vanity and Shower

The previous one-piece shower surround was also updated to a more modern, easy-to-maintain design. This master bathroom remodel was crafted to provide a sophisticated and contemporary feel, focusing on luxury master bathroom ideas that combine both elegance and practicality.

Major Kitchen Renovation with a Main Bath refresh and a completely new Master Bath

Complete Kitchen Remodel

This complete kitchen and 2-bath remodel project was referred to us by Wolcott and Son Contracting. The Kitchen remodel started with a wall being removed from 2 rooms to make one large space, removing existing windows to be replaced with new ones.

A major remodel was wanted in the kitchen.

Added New Master Bath

The Master Bath was created by using a portion of the Master Bedroom. The vanity is from Woodland, the Spirit Door MDF with Creme finish. The top and bench seat is Granite Absolute Black Leathered. The hardware is the Jeffrey Alexander Hadley Series Matte Black. The mirror is from Krugg Reflections Icon Series, LED with dimmer and defogger.

Main Bath Refresh

A refresh for the family bathroom. The vanity is from Woodland, the Easton Door of Hickory Wood in the Fawn finish. The top is Vadera Quartz in Sereno Gold. The hardware is the Jeffrey Alexander Hadley Series Satin Bronze. The mirror is from Krugg Reflections Icon Series, LED with dimmer and defogger.
